Because Barenia is completely natural grain leather, any flaw on the surface cannot be covered. The French Haas tannery has to produce a large amount just so luxury brands can hand-pick the perfect pieces.

Often, it takes dozens of hides just to select one usable piece. Haas sells these to luxury brands at a very high price — and even so, Haas is often reluctant to work with them because the leftover leather has to be sold off cheaply.These leftovers are usually only good enough for small items like watch straps or shoes. They’re rarely usable for making full-sized bags. Xiaoguiren faces the same issue — we can only select from leftover Barenia hides that luxury brands have already picked through, because the Barenia available on the open market simply isn’t usable.Of course, we would never use fake leather. Even though the leather we select has already been picked over by H-brand, we still have to go through many hides to find one usable piece — and often, one hide only makes one bag.That’s why usable Barenia is so rare, and why our Barenia bags have continued to increase in price.Until Faubourg harness leather finally arrived on the scene!

So what exactly is

Faubourg harness leather?

It’s basically Barenia 2.0.

In fact, Faubourg and Barenia are made from the exact same leather.The difference is that Faubourg goes through a few extra processing steps, which greatly increase its usable yield — you can think of it as an upgraded version of Barenia.First, it’s slightly hot-pressed to smooth out minor flaws, making them invisible or even self-heal. Then, plant-based agents are added to improve abrasion resistance. Finally, it undergoes natural tumbling to create a subtle grain texture, which helps hide more visible imperfections.This reduces the strict requirements for flawless hides, significantly improving the usable rate.

Barenia saddle leather is excellent in every way — except for one thing that drives people crazy: it easily shows fingernail marks.Although Barenia can self-heal over time, the sudden appearance of marks still causes heartache.
Faubourg, however, goes through a surface hardening treatment that makes it much more resistant to scratches.Its textured, slightly raised grain hides light fingernail marks easily, and thanks to its physical surface properties, even deeper scratches heal faster.

This edge finishing requires seven layers of application and seven rounds of polishing. The cost is over ten times higher than regular oil-based edge finishing.The advantage is that it will never peel off in sections or develop cracks over time, no matter how long it’s used.
